The Hall was constructed between 1929 and1931, on the site of the former Presidential Palace. It was poorly maintained during the Chinese revolution, but has undergone a series of renovations since 1950. Today, with its up-to-date lighting, air conditioning and acoustics, the Hall is a popular place for local assemblies.

Chen Clan Academy

Known locally as the Chen Clan Temple, this complex of buildings is one of the most culturally-unique structures in Southern China. Built in the 1890s, the complex is comprised of 19 buildings interspersed by courtyards, verandas, grand halls and tasteful gardens. The Chen Clan Academy is known for its great variety of decorations, such as intricate woodcarvings, brick and stone carvings, ceramic sculptures, iron castings and paintings. These artistic decorations cover a wide range of subjects, from Chinese legends and historical stories, to ornately-carved birds, animals, and flowers.

Xiguan Guest House (Xiguan Residence)

The guest houses known collectively as Xiguan Residence were built at the end of the Qing Dynasty by the rich and powerful families for residing in the western part of Guangdong (Xiguan Corner). The buildings are characteristic for their depiction of Lingnan's local characters, hence the name "Xiguan Residence".

Most of the houses of Xiguan Residence are built with bricks and timbers, and its lofty frontpiece is embedded with marbles. The layout follows the traditional Chinese design of placing the main hall at the forefront and expands from the there backwards.

Xiguan Residence is regarded as a treasure of Guangzhou traditional architecture. According to statistics, there are more than 100 of such residences in existence, over 10 of which are in urgent need of conservation for their historical and architectural value. The most well-known Xiguan Residences are: Liangzizhengdi, Denggongbaodi and Garden of Family Zhong. But most of these famous houses haven't been conserved, and the rare survival is "Xiaohuafangzhai", which means small boat house, built like a round garden in 1902 at Liwan.

Zhaoqing
Zhaoqing, meaning the beginning of auspiciousness and happiness, is located in the center of Guangdong Province with a population of 3,800,000 people; it occupies 15,000 km2 and is 140 nautical miles to Hong Kong.
Zhaoqing has been the political, economical and cultural center of the area in the middle and lower reaches of Xijiang River from ancient times. With a history of over 2200 years, Zhaoqing is home to many natural and cultural landmarks and "showpieces", with the Star-lake Scenery Area being the most famous one. The Seven-star Scenic Area is composed of five small lakes, six hillocks, seven rocks and eight caves. Shaped like the Big Dipper, the seven rocks on the surface of the lake accentuate the stunning beauty of the surrounding landscape. In the east of the scenic area, there are the Fairy Maiden Worshipping Buddha and a 1,000-year-old ancient temple; in the west, there is the scenery of the Seven Rock Hills in miraculous shapes. The most wonderful scenery is a uge sleeping Buddha formed by Apo, Heavenly Pillar and Immortal's Palm rocks. At the Pure Brightness (5th solar term) and Autumn Equinox (16th solar term) every year, the sun sets at the mouth of the sleeping Buddha, forming a scenic wonder of the Buddha with a red pearl in the mouth.
